EMPHASIS ON PAINTINGS. God DAMN it. So jealous of his eye. 

Yes, these are very beautiful, and require a mind-bogglingly tremendous amount of skill. (I hope to do any single thing in my life with half as much skill as these require.)

Still, I will never understand the appeal of photorealistic painting that simply reproduces what the eye sees. That’s a task for photography. It would be more interesting if that incredible skill was used to add something to the scene, something that couldn’t be captured with a camera; add something that gives the image more meaning.
